Videos for Localizing and Counting
Sample videos for localizing and counting can be found as attachments to the bottom of this page. These were made offline from a camera attached to a computer. The results for the network will be posted soon.
The algorithm utilized in these videos take histogram-peak information (peak coordinates, height, breadth) and feeds to the tracker. What you see is the tracker output overlayed onto the original video. One of the main issues dealt by the tracker is the peak disappearance that occurs when people stop moving. The initial results posted here show that the tracker takes care of most of these cases. Note that we do not claim to precisely track/count people who are not 100% covered by the camera, although the tracker often does a good job on those, as the videos show.
The first video shows two people walking in a testbed. The floor markings are 25cm away from each other. This video shows the histogram's precision when the people are in the center 2/3rds of the image. In the borders, the different perspective caused by the wide-angle allows for occlusions to happen.
The next three videos show a video of 5 people with:
1) raw output from histogram peaks overlayed onto the original video
2) the output of the tracker overlayed onto the original video
3) a 3-D view of the histogram
The video in item (1) shows that the raw histogram output provides already a large amount of information regarding the number and positions of moving people in a scene. Item (2) shows the result of applying a simple tracker to that information. Better results may be reached by using a better predictor in the tracker.
